Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.

A senior representative said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
